Salem permits small roof-mounted wind systems on residences

Salem City Council Committee approves zoning amendment allowing small rooftop wind systems. Ward 5 Councillor Lydia C. King led the proposal through the Committee on Ordinances, Licenses and Legal Affairs, with Committee Chair Andrew W.
Varela appointing King to the committee specifically for this meeting. The amended ordinance sets capacity at 10 kilowatts per turbine, height at 20 feet, and requires 10-foot setbacks from property boundaries. Both votes to approve the amendments and send the ordinance for a joint public hearing with the Planning Board passed unanimously 3-0.
