Salem Children's Alliance Distributes 500 Hygiene Kits Before School Year

SALEM — The Salem Children's Alliance distributed more than 500 hygiene kits to kids and teens this week, a community-funded effort timed to the start of the school year. Mayor Dominick Pangallo also marked Ukrainian Independence Month with a flag raising ceremony at Riley Plaza on Friday, and state health officials flagged Salem among 70 Massachusetts communities facing heightened West Nile virus risk.

TOWN HALL

The Salem Children's Alliance said Friday it distributed over 500 personal hygiene kits to local kids and teens, an effort made possible by donations from members of the community. The group said the kits were meant to help students "start the new school year feeling fresh," capping a summer-long donation drive for new, unopened personal care items.

Mayor Pangallo joined residents Friday at 11 a.m. at Riley Plaza for a flag raising ceremony honoring Ukrainian Independence Month, part of the city's ongoing calendar of civic recognitions this year.

The city's Park, Recreation and Community Services Department also released its September program catalog, outlining the department's fall lineup of activities for residents.
