Zero Waste Salem hears pitch for mandatory business composting

SALEM — Zero Waste Salem committee eyes mandatory composting, plans spring events. Ward 2 Councilor Andrew Smith told the May 5 meeting that mandatory business composting should expand, citing Coffee Time and Front St Coffeehouse as models. The committee approved April minutes unanimously and heard from Ridwell representative Helen Sides about a mail-in recycling service charging $30 to join and $9 per mailing.
Upcoming events include a May 16 Repair Cafe with 26 appointments already booked, followed by Swap'N'Drop events on June 6 and 13.
