Transportation Commission approves Salem Street parking and Congress Street crosswalk

Salem Transportation Commission approves parking redesign and harbor walk expansion. Chair Jaime Garmendia presided as commissioners unanimously voted to authorize 31 staff and faculty parking spaces on Salem Street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, September through June. The Commission also unanimously approved a pedestrian crosswalk on Congress Street, north of the Congress Street bridge, designed to connect two sections of the existing harbor walk with bump-outs and granite curbing.
Assistant Transportation Director Christina Hodge noted the Salem Street enhancements are intended to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.
