SRA approves referral of church veteran housing project

Salem Redevelopment Authority advances veteran housing project to design review. The Authority unanimously referred the 50 Washington Street adaptive reuse of Salem Tabernacle Church to the Design Review Board, advancing plans for 48 permanent supportive housing units for at-risk veterans. Beacon Communities will develop and manage the project, with Soldier On providing case management and supportive services.

Construction is anticipated to run from January 2028 through June 2029. The Authority also unanimously approved adding Lappin Park and East India Square to the city's online permitting portal for events and programming.
