School Committee · Meeting of April 6, 2026

Salem School Committee presents $81.8M fiscal 2027 budget with 4.6 percent increase over current year. The budget allocates $64,053,930.83 to personnel (78 percent of total), reflecting 6 percent salary increases driven by collective bargaining agreements, with $17,701,437.17 allocated to non-personnel costs including a 17 percent jump in transportation and 5-8 percent increases in utilities. To balance the budget, the district proposes 31.8 position reductions, including 19 positions through the planned merger of Carlton and Saltonstall elementary schools into Sarah Parker Remond School serving approximately 475 students in grades K-5.

The Board unanimously declared spaces at Collins Middle School, Salem High School, and Horace Mann Laboratory School as surplus to generate facility rental revenue.
