Salem Tree Commission approves prior meeting minutes, schedules two June tree events. Chair Darleen Melis led a five-member meeting that approved March 16 minutes and scheduled two June events: a Liberty Tree planting ceremony on June 6 at 9:30 a.m. in front of St. Peter's Church with Mayor Dominick Pangallo, Historian Charlie Newhall, and District Attorney Paul Tucker as guest speakers, and a Tree Steward event on May 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Essex Street Mall with 20 tree pits.
Tree Warden Kieran Kavanaugh reported approximately 65 trees will be planted by end of June while the commission works to prevent tree incidents following the May 4 Melrose incident.
