Salem Race Equity Commission opens new three-year term with focus on community outreach and guest speakers. Chair Regina Zaragoza Frey welcomed newly appointed members Rosa Alvarado, Alexandra Ramos, Colby Bomberowitz, Dr. Vanita Naidoo, Dr.
Melanie Sonsteng-Person, Jennifer Winsor, and Dr. Shelby Ortega during an organizational meeting attended by Salem Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Stephen Zrike and City Council Liaison Kyle Davis.
The commission discussed inviting guest speakers from Salem Public Schools, Salem State University, and community organizations to address priorities including LGBTQIA+ support and outreach. Leadership elections are scheduled for April, with Dr. Sonsteng-Person indicating she would serve as Vice Chair if no other members step forward.
Meetings will occur the first Thursday of each month at 5 p.m.
