SALEM COUNCIL APPROVES $15.5M IN FISCAL 2027 CAPITAL SPENDING

Salem City Council approves $15.5M in capital spending for fiscal 2027. The council voted unanimously to adopt bond orders for both general fund infrastructure ($7,862,000) and water and sewer projects ($7,660,000) in their second and final passage. The council also voted 11-0 to authorize the Mayor to enter into a High School Project agreement with the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
Councillor Lydia C. King's resolution supporting state rent-stabilization legislation was referred to committee, with the measure citing data showing Salem average rents increased 34.8 percent since 2020 and noting 1,200 local residents signed the ballot petition before it was struck down by the state Supreme Judicial Court.
