Salem Sustainability Committee reviews on-street EV charging feasibility study. The Sustainability, Energy, and Resiliency Committee reviewed a yearlong Leidos study identifying six neighborhoods for potential on-street electric vehicle charging stations, with preliminary project costs ranging from $60,000 to $68,000 per site. Funding is available through the Massachusetts EV Incentive Program, covering up to $50,000 per location, and National Grid's program covering 100 percent of electrical service costs plus up to $3,900 per charging port.
The study engaged 78 community members rating proposed locations that prioritize residential areas with limited off-street parking. The committee recognized Betsy Fredericks for her contributions and will coordinate with the Department of Transportation to explore a pilot project.
