Planning Board continues veteran housing and development projects

Salem Planning Board delays votes on two major projects. Beacon Communities Services' proposal to convert the Tabernacle Congregational Church into 48 studio apartments for veterans was continued to June 25, 2026, on a 7-0 vote. North Shore Community Development Corporation similarly delayed amendments to a Lafayette Street and Derby Street development, which would modify culvert-repair conditions under a city MassWorks grant.
The board approved a subdivision frontage waiver for 74 Beaver Street, allowing 27 feet instead of 100 feet, and endorsed an ANR plan for the same property, both unanimously. An extension for 250 and 260 Highland Avenue was approved through January 30, 2027.
