SALEM — Planning Board continues five major development applications. The board unanimously postponed decisions on five applications including Beacon Communities Services' conversion of the Tabernacle Congregational Church into 48 veteran apartments, a 735-unit self-storage facility, and two phases of the Forest River Residences totaling nearly 485 units. Extended discussion of the Forest River projects focused on design details and traffic impacts, with the board and residents raising concerns about Harrison Road capacity and evacuation options.
Chair Kirt Rieder directed staff to have the peer reviewer address traffic safety questions at the April 9 meeting when the projects are scheduled for reconsideration.
