Salem Planning Board approves veteran housing project at Tabernacle Church. Beacon Communities Services LLC received board approval for a site plan and special permits to create 48 studio apartments for veterans at the Tabernacle Congregational Church property at 50 Washington Street, with vote 8-0. The project includes renovation of the existing building and two additions within parking lots, with 9 car parking spaces and continued church uses.
The board also heard continuances on the Forest River Residences project, proposing 145 housing units through adaptive reuse of Salem State University buildings, and approved a letter to MassDOT requesting stormwater management relief for that project, with state approval unlikely before early 2027.
