Planning Board approves 301 Essex Street mixed-use residential project

Salem Planning Board approves 301 Essex Street mixed-use project with 30 residential units. The board voted 8-0 to authorize conversion of the ground-floor parking garage into commercial space and increase residential units from 20 to 30, allowing attorney Scott Grover's client Jerry's, LLC to proceed with the downtown development. The applicant presented a Transportation Demand Management strategy featuring transit-pass subsidies of up to $30 per month, bike parking for 30 units, e-bike charging, and resident ineligibility for the city's parking program.
Two projects were continued to February 19: a 735-unit self-storage facility at 45 Jefferson Avenue and AvalonBay Communities' Forest River Residences, a proposed 340-unit development on Harrison Road and Loring Avenue with 524 parking spaces.
