Harbor Port Authority preserves historic granite, implements paid wharf parking

Salem Harbor Port Authority approves $9,999 granite preservation contract. The Authority voted to fund recovery of 19th-century stones from historic navigation markers being removed by the U.S. Coast Guard, directing the granite to the ferry terminal building and potential public art rather than disposal.
Harbormaster Captain Bill McHugh also provided an update on the Passport Parking Initiative, launching May 1 at Blaney Street Wharf with estimated revenue of $180,450 through September at $1.25 per hour. The paid parking system, using the Park app, runs 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., May through November 1, and has generated mixed community feedback, though overnight-parking restrictions addressed key concerns.
