Council approves $30,727 in cultural grants with dissent on Film Festival

Salem Cultural Council approves $30,727 in cultural grants awarded to 21 organizations. Treasurer Cris Gladly motioned the package for approval. The first 20 grants were approved unanimously, while the Salem Film Festival award drew a dissenting vote, passing 5-1 with Co-Chair John Newhall's second.

The council also approved reschedule of the "Reclaiming Folk" event to January 2026 and voted to set aside $1,535 (5% of funds) for a public grantee reception at El Punto, North Shore CDC, to build community awareness of the grants program.
