Commission approves trolley permit fee increase to $500

Park & Recreation Commission · Meeting of May 19, 2026

Salem Park Commission raises trolley permit fees to $500 per vehicle. Chair James Shea's commission voted unanimously to increase permit stickers for Salem Trolley from $50 to $500 per vehicle for six trolleys, generating $3,000 annually in revenue for park maintenance. The increase followed safety concerns Member Robert Callahan raised about trolley traffic on Winter Island's private roadway.

The commission also unanimously approved 19 summer event permits across Salem parks, including approvals for the Celebration of Historical Black Tradition, Salem Summer Jam, Much Ado About Nothing theatrical performance, and city-sponsored programs like Touch a Truck and The Longest Table.
