City Council sends water, sewer, trash rate increases to full body

SALEM — City Council utility committees send rate increases forward. The Committee on Ordinances, Licenses and Legal Affairs and Committee of the Whole voted unanimously June 11 to recommend water, sewer, and trash-fee ordinances to the full Council, effective July 1, 2026. Residential trash rates rise to $26.83 monthly from $25.79; water climbs 9 percent to $5.26 per 100 cubic feet from $4.82; sewer increases to $8.70 per 100 cubic feet from $8.28.
Councillor Ty Hapworth moved all three ordinances forward, seconded by Councillor Conrad J. Prosniewski. Public comment noted utility increases exceed income growth.
