SALEM — City Council restricts chamber use, bars public after-hours access. The Committee on Government Services and Committee of the Whole unanimously approved six amendments to the City Council Chamber Policy and Reservation Form on May 13, including a prohibition on public use outside business hours, a requirement that external users bring their own laptops, and a mandate for 48 hours' advance notice to the IT department. City Clerk Ilene Simons cited staffing constraints in the building department and a recent Zoom connectivity failure caused by improper equipment logout as the drivers for the changes.
All six votes carried unanimously, with the final motion recommending adoption of the amended policy.
