City Council approves FY27 budgets for four departments

Salem City Council approves FY27 budgets totaling $16.6 million for key departments. The Committee on Administration and Finance unanimously approved budgets on June 1, including $11.9 million for the Fire Department, $1.85 million for Traffic and Parking, $1.05 million for Electrical, and $1.02 million for Inspectional Services. Fire Chief Alan Dionne reported staffing improvements with full staffing expected through 2027, though fire incidents are running higher than normal this year.

The council also discussed the ending of the Salem Skipper transit program and explored alternatives for residents who depend on the service.
