City Council approves $447.4 million high school bond order

SALEM — City Council unanimously backs $447.4 million high school bond project. The Salem City Council voted 11-0 to authorize construction of a new high school at 77 Willson Street, an educational facility anticipated to serve students for 50 years, potentially eligible for a Massachusetts School Building Authority grant covering up to 73.89 percent of eligible project costs. A May 5, 2026 special election will allow residents to vote on a debt exclusion permitting tax increases outside Proposition 2½ limits for high school debt service.
The Council also approved a $325,000 bond for Fire Department Station 2 reconstruction.
